Guided Walk - Pteridomania in Victorian Weston

About Us

Come and join us on our guided walks and explore the local area while keeping fit. The walks are led by Chris Richards, Seafront Ranger and include a talk along the route. Enjoy the scenery and hear about local history, geology, archaeology and famous people with North Somerset connections.
Each walk has a charge of £4 per person
Walks start promptly at 2pm and will last approximately two and a half hours
Please wear suitable footwear and clothing appropriate for weather conditions
Please do not bring dogs on the walks (except assistance dogs)

Author Charles Kingsley invented this name for the Victorian ‘craze’ for ferns (Pteridophytes). This walk looks at the ferns of Weston Woods that fuelled this pervasive phenomenon locally. Lists of ferns growing in Weston Woods compiled a century or more ago include species that appear to have disappeared today, or have they?
Meet at the Water Tower in the middle of Weston Woods at the west end of Worlebury Hill Road.
Rough ground and steep gradients.
