Clevedon’s Marine Lake is the world’s largest sea water infinity pool – and the size of two football pitches. It’s open all-year round and at most times of the day you’ll find somebody having a dip regardless of the weather. If you don’t want to do it solo, join hundreds of others at the annual New Year’s Day Dip.

Take on the terrifying Sand Bay Dirt Jumps

Dare devils from all over the South of England travel to Weston Woods on the edge of Sand Bay to ride the incredible Sand Bay Dirt Jumps.

Play Crazy golf in the dark!

We’ve got traditional miniature golf venues along the seafront but we’ve also got an indoor neon glow-in-the-dark version of the game which comes complete with its own drinks bar in the middle of the course. Great for families, adults and stags and hens. 

See Weston Bay from the air on a thrilling helicopter ride

Weston is home to Europe’s largest helicopter museum and as well as being able to marvel at the huge collection of helicopters on the ground you can also book pleasure flights over the glorious Weston bay.

Pose on the rocks where the Beatles had that photograph taken

Sit on the very same rock that The Beatles posed on for that famous photograph during their 1963 week-long visit to Weston-super-Mare where they played for six consecutive nights at the former Odeon Cinema which is now the Plaza Cinema.

Listen to one of the UK’s three surviving Compton Organs

Watch in awe as the historic Compton Organ rises up through the floor of the Plaza Cinema and then listen to the amazing sounds from a bygone era.

Experience a day (or a night) inside a prison

See Weston’s super-cool street art

Weston-super-Mare has one of the finest collections of street art in the south west – and it won’t cost you a penny to see it. There’s huge underwater scenes, a prowling tiger, faces, wildlife and some pretty witty captioned stuff as well.

Visit Brean Down, and Brean Down Fort to see where the Bouncing Bomb was tested

Climb the 200-ish steps to Brean Down for a stunning walk and make sure you visit the fort at the far end. Here you will see where the bouncing bomb was tested with varying degrees of success – including one occasion when it bounced backwards towards the people who were testing it. 

Drive through England’s most breathtaking gorge

One of the most spectacular drives in the country is just a few miles away at Cheddar Gorge. Or, leave the car and walk around the top of the gorge on the beautiful rim walk.

Take a boat trip to Steep Holm

See large colonies of gulls, Cormorants, Peregrine Falcons, Ravens, other resident birds, and Muntjac Deer on the island of Steep Holm where you will also see Victorian gun emplacements with their original seven-ton cannons, Second World War gun emplacements, and underground ammunition stores. Don’t expect toilets and a bar on board the boat, this is a walkers and bird watchers adventure trip.

Descend deep into the caves at Wookey Hole or Cheddar

If the weather takes a turn for the worse don’t worry because you can always head underground to experience the magnificent caves at Wookey Hole or Cheddar Gorge. At Wookey there are two ways of experiencing this underground network. You can do it the traditional way with a tour guide and convenient lighting or you can do it the Wild Wookey Way with ropes and head torches! 

Visit Europe’s biggest helicopter museum

Weston is home to Europe’s largest helicopter museum. It features more than 100 Rotary wing aircraft from all over the world including two of the Queen's Royal Flight helicopters, the current world speed record holder G-LYNX which can fly at 400 km per hour, plus many more. 

Visit the Jill Dando Garden

Former BBC presenter Jill Dando is remembered in Grove Park. Jill’s Garden was created in memory of the former Westonian with help from the BBC’s Ground Force team.

Have a splashing day at Weston's Water Adventure Play Park

Spend all-day at the Weston Water Adventure Play Park for just £3 a child (accompanying adults go free) and watch them scream with delight as they play on the water splash pad.

Visit the stunning Tyntesfield House

Tyntesfield House is a beautiful National Trust property with magical fairytale turrets – but it is even more remarkable that it was funded by bird poo - imported guano (dried bird mess) used to make fertiliser. 

Walk or cycle the Brean Down Way

Hire a bike, ebike or bring your own for a lovely eight-mile ride from Weston town centre, into the pretty village of Uphill and then through pretty countryside and nature reserves to Brean Down.

Somerset is famous for its scrumpy so make sure you take in a trip to a cider farm.

Admire the machines at a Weston's Bike Night

Thursday nights in the summer are Bike Night. It's a Weston-super-Mare institution and you don't have to be a biker to enjoy it. Watch hundreds of bikers arrive on the Beach Lawns from 6pm and then admire their machines - which in the past have included huge motortrikes, a bike that is half-car and half-motorbike and loads more.

Join the craze for cold water swimming by taking a dip in Marine Lake where the tide is always in

Don’t use our famous tides as an excuse for not having a dip. The tide is always in at our Marine Lake sea-swimming beach where the causeway wall keeps the water in.

Immerse yourself in Weston’s vibrant live music scene

Weston’s live music scene is on a different level. There’s something on at several different venues every weekend as well as on some week nights. There’s indoor and outdoor venues, concerts on the beach as well as festivals nearby. 

Catch a show at one of Weston’s two theatres

Weston is awash with entertainment options. It’s got two main theatres within yards of each other - The Playhouse and The Blakehay. There’s also the quaint 58-seat Theatre in The Hut and the Front Room which offers a huge variety of shows and entertainment.

See a flick at one of England’s oldest cinemas

Clevedon’s Curzon Cinema first opened its doors in 1912 with a performance to raise money for the families of the victims of the Titanic Disaster and it is still entertaining people today. It is the oldest, continually running, purpose-built, independent cinema in the country.

See North Somerset’s bizarre-looking lighthouses 

We don’t know what it is about this section of Britain’s coastline but it has three of the nation’s most bizarre looking lighthouses all within a short distance of each other. You can easily walk between the peculiar shaped Battery Point lighthouse at Portishead and the Black Nore Lighthouse just outside of Portishead which looks as though it has landed from outer space.

Experience snow sports all year-round

The nearby Mendip Activity Centre has a fantastic dry ski slope and also a toboggan course. Prices are competitive and the instructors are brilliant. 

Have a go at axe-throwing

Axe throwing is a bit of a thing here in North Somerset and we’ve got three venues all close by where you can try your hand at this great fun activity. The activity centres at Wall Eden and Mendip Activity Centre both offer it while you can also have a go indoors at the Weston Activity Zone.

Weston is known for its large sandy beach but did you also know that it has cliffs at the Uphill end which are a favourite for climbers. It also has one of the best indoor climbing centres for miles around with the town centre Clip n Climb which includes the highest vertical drop slide in the UK and the daring Leap of Faith experience. Climbers also tackle the rockface at Brean Down while the Mendip Activity Centre offers climbing and abseiling experiences.
