Seven days in Weston-super-Mare

Seaside charm, coastal adventures, and Somerset days out

Whether you’re here to relax by the sea or explore beyond the coastline, Weston-super-Mare is the perfect base for a varied and memorable stay.

Day 1 – Welcome to Weston

Ease into your seaside break. Take a stroll along the long flat promenade and visit the iconic Weston-super-Mare Grand Pier for classic seaside fun and panoramic views across the Bristol Channel. Explore the town centre, browse independent shops, and enjoy your first taste of the coast.

While you’re in the town centre, check out the curious Silica spire. Known locally as the Carrot or Parsnip, this giant artwork now doubles as a 24/7 visitor information centre with interactive digital screens providing up-to-the-minute tourist information. Return again, if you wish, during the evening to see its spire lit up in coloured lights.

As you explore the town, keep an eye out for Weston’s growing street art scene with colourful murals appearing in unexpected corners and side streets

Wind down: Enjoy fish and chips by the sea or catch an evening performance at The Playhouse Theatre.

Day 2 – Coastal Views & Local Character

Discover some of Weston’s most scenic and historic spots.

Start your day near Birnbeck Pier, the only pier in the UK set on its own island and one of Weston’s three historic piers. While restoration work continues, you can enjoy views from the shoreline and visit the nearby information hub.

If the tide allows, take a seat on Beatles Rock, made famous when The Beatles played six consecutive nights at Weston-super-Mare in 1963, early in their rise to fame.

Later, head to Uphill (a short drive or bus ride – and for the more energetic a lovely walk along the sand) and walk up to Uphill Church a striking hilltop church with a roofless nave. For even better views, climb the nearby viewing tower.

Wind down: For something a little different, see what’s on at The Blakehay Theatre or the intimate Front Room.

Day 3 – Cheddar Gorge & Wells

A must-do Somerset day out.

Visit Cheddar to explore the dramatic Cheddar Gorge and its famous caves, set among towering limestone cliffs.

Continue to the historic city of Wells, home to the magnificent Wells Cathedral, Bishop’s Palace and enchanting Vicar’s Close – a medieval street, widely regarded as Europe’s oldest continuously inhabited residential street.

Wind down: After a full day, enjoy a relaxed evening back in Weston and perhaps a film at one of the town’s two cinemas.

Day 4 – Cider Farm, cycling and countryside

For keen cyclists, follow the Strawberry Line through peaceful countryside towards Thatchers Cider Farm where pre-booked tours are available and on to Cheddar (approx. 22 miles return). If you’re not on the tour you can still visit the shop, see the orchards and sample the produce in the famous Thatchers pub.

No bike? No problem. Take the train to Yatton and hire one from the Strawberry Line Café.

Wind down: In summer, enjoy live music at the Brit Bar with its famous outdoor courtyard stage.

Day 5 – Clevedon Coastal Escape

Enjoy a change of pace in elegant Clevedon.

Stroll along the seafront and visit the beautifully restored Clevedon Pier, a true Victorian gem. Browse independent shops and relax in one of the town’s welcoming cafés.

Keep an eye out for one of Clevedon’s quirkiest sights – a replica of the first British-designed and built motor car on the Six Ways roundabout.

Wind down: Spend an evening at Clevedon’s historic Curzon Cinema, one of the oldest continuously running cinemas in the UK. It opened in 1912 just days after the Titanic disaster with a benefit performance for the victims and their families.

Day 6 – Your Weston, Your Way

Prince Consort Gardens, Weston-super-Mare, Somerset

A day to slow down or explore more.

Take time to revisit your favourite spots or discover something new. A visit to Weston Museum reveals an unexpected highlight – a large-scale piece by Banksy, the pinwheel created for his infamous Dismaland exhibition in Weston. While you are there, don’t miss looking in on Clara’s Cottage – an attached Victorian Cottage experience

You might also enjoy seeing how many faces you can find hidden in the walls of the Prince Consort Gardens pond or take time out in Grove Park where you can see Jill’s Garden – a memorial garden built by the BBC Ground Force team in memory of Jill Dando.

Wind down: Choose your perfect evening – whether that’s live entertainment, a quiet drink, or watching one of Weston’s famously expansive sunsets across the Bristol Channel from top viewpoints such as the Revo Bar or Captains Cabin.

Day 7 – A Seaside Farewell

Make the most of your final morning.

Take one last stroll along the promenade, looking out towards the two Holm islands before visiting the Helicopter Museum on the edge of town – home to the world’s largest collection of helicopters – and a perfect last stop before hitting the M5 motorway and heading for home.
