When is the Weston Beach Race

The 2026 Weston Beach Race will take place on 16th – 18h October. The event takes place annually in October on a weekend when the tides are at their most favourable. This iconic race turns the sandy shores of Weston-super-Mare into a chaotic playground for hundreds of daredevil bikers. Riders race across a 7km course filled with towering sand dunes, deep ruts, and treacherous obstacles in a thrilling spectacle. This event truly lives up to its wild reputation, offering both participants and spectators an unforgettable experience.

It is no surprise that the Weston-super-Mare Beach Race was crowned the 2023 National Outdoor Events Association Event of the Year!  You only have to see it live once to understand why it is such a stand-out unique event. Thousands of tonnes of sand are shifted each year to create the formidable course which each year brings many bikers to their knees as they're forced to dig their prized-machines out of the sand and admit defeat as the gruelling course claims victim after victim. 

The 7-kilometre course is nothing short of brutal, featuring a variety of tough and specially crafted sand dunes. The dunes are carefully designed to test the skill, stamina, and determination of every rider, making each lap a battle of endurance and mental toughness.

What it's like riding the exhilarating Weston Beach Race - A rider's perspective

Tom Phillips felt searing pain as the exhaust fumes from his quad bike scorched his leg. The extreme heat melted his clothing into his flesh as he somehow managed to lift his quad bike out of the sand. He rode it into the pits where he got hosed down by the medics.

Washed down, he went back out and finished the race.

A few days later, he was in hospital having fake skin grafts after the wound became infected. 

Was it worth it? “Yes. Definitely,” he replied without a moment’s hesitation - such is the lure of the Weston Beach Race.
