Discover the hidden gem of Uphill
Nestled on the outskirts of Weston-super-Mare, the picture-postcard village of Uphill is a hidden gem of natural beauty and historic charm. With its estuary, dramatic cliffs, scenic country walks, and an award-winning sandy beach, this enchanting spot is Somerset at its finest. Throw in it's viewing tower and the Marina at the foot of the cliff and Uphill is pretty much guaranteed to get you reaching for your camera.

Climb the hill to St. Nicholas Church, a unique partially roofless gem perched atop the cliff. This beautiful place of worship - without a covering for its nave - offers not only a serene atmosphere but also panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and down onto the marina.
Don’t miss the neighbouring viewing tower for a breathtaking 360-degree perspective. From here, you can gaze across to Wales, admire the grandeur of Brean Down rock, and spot Glastonbury Tor rising in the distance. It’s a viewpoint that showcases the essence of Somerset and beyond, all in one magical vista.
A Beach to Brag About

Once a locals' secret, Uphill Beach is now celebrated as one of the UK’s top dog-friendly beaches. In 2023, it was named the best dog-walking beach by Parkdean Resorts, a claim backed by its staggering 23.2 million views on TikTok. Its wide sandy expanse is perfect for furry companions and their owners alike.
You can easily access the beach by strolling left along the main beach from Weston’s Grand Pier. Pass by the vibrant Windzone, where kite surfers, windsurfers, and Blo-kart enthusiasts show off their skills, and you’ll find Uphill’s serene stretch of sand by the estuary.
A word of caution: while Brean Down’s impressive rock face beckons from across the water, don’t attempt to walk out to it directly. The inviting sand can quickly turn into dangerous sinking mud. Instead, take the safe route via Uphill Marina and follow the Brean Down Way for a secure and scenic journey.
Walking and Cycling

Uphill sits along the Brean Down Way Cycle Route and footpath, making it a paradise for walkers and cyclists. Don’t worry if you’re not up for the full eight-mile route; with a variety of well-marked paths, you can create your own leisurely adventure, all of which come with unforgettable views. And, if you're looking for a pit-stop there's the charming and dog-friendly Uphill Boathouse Cafe which is cut into the cliff.
Nature and Nature Reserves
The Brean Down Way soon open up into two nature reserves. There's plenty of opportunity to spot birds and wildlife if you take the marshlands paths into Uphill instead of taking the shorter and easier lane.

Adventure sports at Uphill
Climbers love to test themselves on the Uphill cliffs while the Weston Yacht Club, sailing enthusiats and gig clubs launch from the estuary at Uphill. Furhter down the beach towards Weston-super-Mare you will reach The Windzone where the Blokart racers and the wind and kite surfers have their fun when the weather is in their favour.
Stay at the Uphill Marina campsite
Stay at the stunning Uphill Marinal lakeside campsite. It sits under the cliffs and offers pitches with incredible views as well as being just a freewheel away from the Brean Down Walking and cycling route. It's also an easy stroll to the village's two pubs.
