What to do in an emergency

If you see someone in difficulty, don't attempt a rescue. Phone 999 and ask for the coastguard if you see anyone in danger, attempting to enter the water in poor sea conditions or stuck in the mud.

If you become stuck in mud or soft sand spread your weight as much as you can. Try not to move around and stay as calm as you can. Don’t let others try to rescue you - they could become stuck too.

Stay Safe on Weston-super-Mare Beach

The Seafront Team and Beach Rangers patrol Weston-super-Mare beach from April to September from 9am -10pm and regularly check the beach throughout the day during winter. If you need to contact the Seafront Team or Beach Rangers, please call 01934 626982.

You should observe the safety and warning signs and supervise children at all times.

Always check the weather and tidal conditions before you set out. Think about whether you could become cut off and do not take risks.

Never use inflatables in strong winds or rough seas.

Around two-thirds of people in the UK go to the seaside at least once a year – perhaps for summer holidays or day trips. Last year alone, RNLI Crew responded to 11,173 incidents and spent 10,967 hours on rescues. To help the beach-going public stay safe, the lifesaving charity is offering some essential beach safety tips here to make sure people remember their summer holidays for the right reason.

Weston-super-Mare beach is cleaned every day except Christmas Day and other beaches in the district are cleaned regularly. Weston Beach, Sand Bay and Clevedon beach are European bathing waters and are monitored by the Environment Agency from May to September.
