Dog Friendly Weston-super-Mare

Dogs are permitted on Weston-super-Mare beach all year round - but there are restrictions. The area between Royal Sands (car park on the south area of the beach) and Uphill is dog friendly all year round and leads to the start of the Brean Down Way from Uphill Marina.  Also the area between the Grand Pier and Marine Lake is available for dog walking year round. The area between Royal Sands and the Grand Pier is off-limits to dogs from 1st May to 30th September between 9am and 7pm. Dogs are not permitted at Marine Lake at any time.

Dog Beach Walks near Weston-super-Mare

As well as the main beach in Weston-super-Mare there are other great beach walks nearby which you can enjoy including Uphill Beach which in 2003 was named the UK's Best Dog Walking Beach by a leading holiday company.

Uphill Beach

Until 2023 this was a bit of a locals' secret but the cat, or perhaps we should say dog, is out of the bag now that it has been recognised by a leading holiday firm as the best dog walking beach in the UK. And it is not just Parkdean Resorts who think so, this sandy stretch has had more than 23.2million views on 'TikTok'

Sand Bay Beach

Sand Bay Beach is dog-friendly all year round and is just short car journey along the old 'Toll Road' on the number 1 bus or bus ride away.  You could even walk there through Weston Woods to this vast area of dog-friendly beach. From Sand Bay beach you can also enjoy spectacular walks at Sand Point, Middle Hope and Weston Woods. The beach is also home to the Sand Bay Tea Room where doggy Afternoon Cream Teas are served! 

For those wanting to stay a little longer in Sand Bay, the dog-friendly self-catering properties of Willow House and the Sand Bay Retreat holiday bungalow are both just a short walk from Sand Bay beach.

Dog Walks in Weston-super-Mare

As well as beach walks for your dog to enjoy, there's a great number of parks and green spaces also available to explore. 

Weston Woods

Weston Woods which rise above the town offer fantastic views over Weston bay, Birnbeck Pier and Sand Bay and provide some great dog walks. A mile-and-a-half route from the entrance to the hillfort. The main entrance by Worlebury Hill Road has free parking available, alternatively walk along the seafront promenade past Marine Lake, right into Upper Kewstoke Road, turning right into Camp Road and left into the dead end of Camp Road, where you will find steps to climb to the woodland entrance. You can walk all the way from Weston-super-Mare to the all-year-round dog friendly beach at Sand Bay.

Clarence Park

Across Beach Road from the Promenade at the south end of Weston beach, you will find the charming Clarence Park.  Half of the park - the one furthest from the beach - allows off-lead walking, however dogs must be kept on their leads in the other half of the park.

Ashcombe Park

One mile inland is the sprawling Ashcombe Park where dogs are permittied to roam off the lead throughout - with the exception of fenced playground areas.
