About Us

Part of TAKE FIVE – Weston Arts + Health Festival

Poetry and music under the stars with UHBW NHS Foundation Trust's artists in residence.

A brilliant mixed bill kicks off the festival's live action in unforgettable style, with poetry and music from some of the hospital's artists in residence, moonlighting on the beach.

House of Figs is a collaboration between Beth Calverley (The Poetry Machine, UHBW Poet in Residence) and Beth Roberts (Hands of the Heron / Hedera / Tryani Collective, UHBW Musician in Residence). From hospitals to festivals, their work is infused with warmth and wit and always lingers long in the mind, illuminating the value of care for ourselves and others. House of Figs have performed at Lyra Poetry Festival, Komedia Bath, Shambala, HowTheLightGetsIn, Green Man, WOMAD, Bristol Harbour Festival and more.

Roland Harrad is a Bristol based singer/songwriter, performer and trainee music therapist, whose versatile style encompasses folk, jazz, opera, soul, hip-hop and classical, and whose performances have delighted audiences from Catalonia to Kuwait.

Apple of my Eye are the uproarious troubadours of the modern folk scene. Their music blends traditional English folk with modern songwriting, using vocal harmonies and traditional instruments. Warm up your vocals and limber up, you'll be singing and dancing through their whole set.

"Hypnotic… radiates tenderness and awe" - Sabotage Reviews on House of Figs

"... a masterclass of storytelling through music" - Songwriting Magazine on Apple of my Eye
