About Us

The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain (NYBBGB) to perform in Weston. The 80-strong NYBBGB – made up of some of the finest young talented brass and percussion players in the UK aged 12 to 18 – is to visit the south west for a week of training next month (April), culminating in concerts in Weston Super Mare and Cheltenham. Conducted by Bramwell Tovey, one of the world’s leading orchestral conductors, the 80-strong NYBBGB will be joined by guest soloist Dudley Bright, the principal trombone of the one of the world's finest orchestras, the London Symphony Orchestra. The concerts will feature a range of original music for brass band, as well as a number of exciting arrangements and transcriptions.

The band is due to perform at the Winter Gardens in Weston-super-Mare on 19 April. The concert will follow a week-long intensive residential training course, held at Taunton School in Taunton, Somerset (between 13 and 19 April), during which time the youngsters will be coached and tutored by some of the country’s leading brass and percussion players. These include cornet John Berryman (cornet), Ben Godfrey (cornet), Sheona White (tenor horn and flugel), David Childs (euphonium, Roger Argente (trombone), Nick Etheridge (tubas) and Mark Landon (percussion).

Dr Robert Childs, the Chairman of the NYBBGB said: “We are hugely looking forward to performing in the region once more. The 80-strong band features some of the UK’s future stars of the brass and percussion world; and with Bramwell Tovey leading the musical charge, expect the unexpected. This promises to be like no brass band concert you've heard before." The band has performed in recent years at a number of venues including London’s Royal Albert Hall, Cadogan Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall, as well as Snape Maltings, The Bridgewater Hall, The Sage in Gateshead and on BBC Radio 3. Alumni of the NYBBGB include the current London Symphony Orchestra Principal Trumpet, Philip Cobb, former principal trumpet of the same orchestra, the legendary Maurice Murphy, to name but a few.

Tickets for the concerts are available priced £12 each and concessions are £10. Tickets are available via philipbiggs@bandstand.demon.co.uk -ends- For interviews, concert tickets for reviewers or photography, please call Richard Robinson on 0772 5551374.
