About Us
Weston families are invited to join a celebration of all that is great about their town at a one-off festival at Broadoak Academy.
The school is hosting a festival of culture on June 17 as part of its centenary celebrations, and will be partnering with a host of local organisations to showcase the town's talent and diversity.
A series of stalls, talks, displays and interactive activities will create an unmissable event for anyone with a past or present connection to Broadoak, or a passion for the Weston community.
The event will run from 11am-3pm at the Windwhistle Road campus, and will be supported by a wide range of community groups and partner organisations.
They will include sports teams such as Weston Rugby Club and Uphill Juniors Football Club, who will be offering some taster activities, and Cornish Gig Rowers who will add a maritime flavour to festivities.
More artistic visitors will be able to try some hands-on craft activities courtesy of Weston Artspace and an Afghan kite-making workshop.
Youngsters who might be considering a career in the emergency services will be able to engage with teams from both Avon and Somerset Constabulary and Avon Fire and Rescue Service.
And there will also be a wide range of groups focused on promoting equality and diversity – values at the core of the Broadoak ethos, and supported by its parent trust the Cabot Learning Federation.
Those groups will include North Somerset LSBTQ+ Forum, the Race Equality Network, the Multi-Cultural Friendship Society, Weston Polish Association, the Muslim/Mosque & Bangladeshi Community, the Hindu/South Asian Community Group and SARI.
Other community organisations of interest who will be attending include Uphill Village Society, the Samaritans, Refugees Welcome North Somerset, the Royal British Legion and VANS.
There will be plenty to see and do, with music and dancing performances, a wide range of food available, and even inflatables on hand to offer fun for the younger visitors.
It all adds up to a day of fun and excitement which celebrates all that is special about Weston – as well as Broadoak's place within it over the past 100 years.
