Big Discussion: How Can We Support Weston's Creative Community?

About Us

Weston-super-Mare's creative community is diverse and exciting. The town is home to brilliant emerging theatre makers, established visual artists, bold musicians, visionary street artists, enthusiastic audiences, devoted local champions and many others.

There are also a number of barriers that make it hard for people to access cultural activity, and for artists to develop their work; people talk about the lack of space, funding and support, and about finding it hard to navigate what everyone else is doing.

The agenda for this day-long event will be created by everyone who attends, so this is our chance to galvanise conversations about the issues that matter most to us. The space is open to all, whether you work in the arts, support local activities or just want to find out more.

The space will be facilitated by TERRESTRIAL. We are an arts organisation currently running a year-long programme of socially engaged arts events in Weston.

The event will run across a series of spaces. The meeting place is the Sovereign Centre Food Court.

The event will run on a Pay-What-You-Decide basis. There is no cost to sign up and attend, but donations will be welcome at the end of the day.




Open Space is a way of bringing together people and ideas and taking action together. It has been used in all kinds of contexts, from Silicon Valley to peacekeeping... but our main experience of it is through the brilliant national performing arts conference Devoted & Disgruntled run by Improbable. There's a great page on their website that gives an overview of how it works.



Bursaries

TERRESTRIAL is committed to making sure our activities are open to anyone in Weston. If you'd like to attend this workshop but have concerns about costs - for example if you would need a support worker, or would struggle with the cost of travelling from another part of Weston - then please get in touch. We have a number of small bursaries available.

Access

The Sovereign Centre is step-free, with accessible facilities. If you would like to attend this event and would benefit from other provision (eg. BSL interpretation) then please let us know ASAP as we have budget to support this.
