There has been a lot of media interest in Weston-super-Mare since the Prime Minister confirmed that from 29th March up to 6 people or 2 households could meet outdoors. They wanted to know if we were nervous about controlling hordes of people descending on our beach.
With nearly two miles of beach, we publicised that people could move around easily and if they felt that there were too many people in one area, it’s not difficult to move to quieter areas as you walk south.
The Town Council has its own PSPO (Public Space Protection Orderly) and he is very approachable. One of his duties will be to assist where it’s clear that people are breaking the “rule of six” so feel free to call the council if you notice anything of concern.
Hoping that 21st June will bring us to the end of such strict conditions, we aim to open the Visitor Information Centre in the Tropicana. In the meantime, we’re aiming to offer a mobile alternative – watch this space for a big announcement soon...
Explore Magazine for 2021 will be published and circulated in the Weston Mercury on 13th May. Due to Covid-19 it was not published earlier, but will be available from that date from the Mercury and from Visit Weston.
