Weston-super-Mare Visitor Information Centre brings home top accolade alongside the best in the South West at the Tourism Excellence Awards.
Visit Weston-super-Mare was once again honoured to join tourism’s brightest stars this month, as representatives attended the prestigious 2019/20 South West Tourism Excellence Awards held at Exeter Cathedral.
The awards ceremony, sponsored by St. Austell Brewery, kicked off with a warm welcome from Jonathon Greener the Dean of Exeter and during the evening, winners were joined on stage by international rugby stars Kai Horstmann and Greg Holmes, each being presented with a stunning glass award trophy by Teign Glass.
All shortlisted finalists were previous Gold Award winners in their relevant categories from the regional rounds, held all throughout the South West, from Gloucester down to the Scilly Isles. Weston-super-Mare Town Council’s Visitor Information Centre was nominated for Visitor Information Service of the Year after having previously brought home the Gold Award at the Bristol, Bath and Somerset awards in November 2019.
Emma Williams, Tourism Marketing Officer and Caroline Darlington, Tourism Manager attended the ceremony on behalf of the team based at the Visitor Information Centre, and were thrilled to accept the Bronze Award for Visitor Information Service of the Year.
Caroline Darlington said, “It was an honour in itself to be nominated for a South West Tourism Excellence award, as the qualifying territory is so vast. We know tourism is booming in the likes of Cornwall and Devon, and so to represent Somerset - along with a selection of other incredible nominees, was humbling. We can now proudly say that we’re firmly among the best in the South West, a real testament to the hard work and dedication shown by the entire team at the centre. Our successes in 2019 serve as a wonderful foundation to build our 2020 season upon; continuing to spread the message about how wonderful Weston-super-Mare is, far and wide.”
