Once evening falls on Weston town centre, the fun doesn’t stop. It’s also quite a compact area so you can move around and enjoy a huge variety of evening entertainment without having to use your car. Between Grove Village and Dolphin Square, Orchard Street and Meadow Street, the High Street and the railway station, there’s plenty to do in the evening.
Weston-super-Mare’s town centre offers two main theatres and two cinemas, nightclubs and lots of varied live music in bars, hotels and pubs. Whether you choose to enjoy a performance at The Winter Gardens, The Blakehay or Playhouse theatres, catching the latest blockbuster at one of the two cinemas, or heading out for dinner and drinks, there are plenty of inspiring ideas for your evening out.
Local pubs along with familiar franchises offer a welcoming atmosphere to all. If you’re looking for a cosy corner for quiet and intimate drinks or wanting to get the party started in style before heading off to a late club, there’s something to suit everybody. Many bars and pubs host live performances from local bands, musicians and vocalists on an evening; there are even regular karaoke and open-mic nights organised throughout the year if you’d rather be on stage yourself!
Whatever sets your taste buds tingling, chances are you’ll find it on offer in Weston town centre too. There’s global cuisine on your doorstep here, all just a stone’s throw away from the entertainment venues. The town centre eateries have grown in number quite rapidly and you’ll be amazed at the huge variety of taste sensations on offer. Ask any Westonian, “Which is the best restaurant in town?” and you’ll find they are hard pushed to give you an answer. From a café to a fine dining restaurant, from a fish & chip shop to a giant burger or from an international restaurant to a traditional pub meal, the town centre offers it all.
There are sports bars where you can keep up with all the latest games, or try out your skills on the pool tables. Plenty of the evening venues welcome stag and hen parties, yet there are hidden gems where you can enjoy a quiet pint of real ale or Somerset cider, or perhaps an exotic cocktail.
Speaking of which, one of the most hotly anticipated annual events is the Weston Lions Real Ale and Cider Festival held on the beach lawns over 3 days in late July, preceded by the Lions Charity Race Night. The evenings are full of jolly conviviality, with live music and hot food.
There are large-scale evening events in Weston including the Christmas Lights Switch-on and the late night shopping that starts the same day. Weston Carnival is one of the biggest dates on the calendar; always on the Friday evening preceding Remembrance Day in November, the spectacular procession kicks off in the early evening and gives an evening of family entertainment whilst raising money for local charitable causes. Around 120 entries - including illuminated floats, marching bands, fancy dress walkers and entertainers parade through the town to a crowd of thousands. The Museum also hosts regular evening events including Quiz Nights and theatrical performances, check the what’s on pages for details in advance, as many events require advance booking.
Weston-super-Mare Pride is now an eagerly anticipated annual event, held over 2 days in July with colourful and fun parades in the day leading to evenings of partying in the park.
Weston-super-Mare’s town centre provides the safest environment that you could hope for, with our Street Wardens who help with directions and with advice around the town centre until 11pm. On Saturdays, the MAVIS bus is parked centrally and provides a safe haven for anyone who’s lost or feeling unwell. The town centre is adopting the “Best Bar None” initiative for outlets serving alcohol who take a responsible attitude towards their customers. Weston is proud to have received the Purple Flag award for several years. This is a nationwide initiative and towns achieving Purple Flag status are recognised for providing a vibrant mix of night-time entertainment while promoting the safety and wellbeing of visitors and local residents alike.
So remember, Weston-super-Mare town centre shifts a gear in the evenings, it doesn’t all stop when the shops close!
