About

Weston-super-Mare cannot wait to welcome SEE MONSTER after its long voyage through the ravaging waters of the North Sea in search of a new home.  The retired rig worked very hard during its previous life and like many of us is looking forward to a less arduous new chapter.   As a creation of new from old, the regeneration of the rig, transformed from its former life, will champion the role of re-use and creativity within our future.

It will be educational, inspirational and a joy to experience.  Totally free to explore with no entry charge, welcoming and accessible to all.

We’re asking you to spend time exploring all that both SEE MONSTER and WESTON-SUPER-MARE have to offer.  Enjoy a day out to learn, embrace and be inspired.

Ready to see you in the summer of 2022, the SEE MONSTER will get you ready to re-think.  Sitting gloriously in its new home at the Tropicana in the regenerating town of Weston-super-Mare, SEE MONSTER will show you how we can create new from old, making structures come alive again by repurposing them.

So what will you see from visiting SEE MONSTER?   Well you can travel up and inside, wander behind a cascade of a 12-metre waterfall, discover the wild garden where you’ll find hidden routes to explore the rehabilitated Monster and embedded throughout will be new approaches to a more sustainable and greener future.  SEE MONSTER is being brought to life on the site of Weston’s iconic Tropicana lido by Leeds-based studio NEWSUBSTANCE with support from Weston-super-Mare Town Council and North Somerset Council. Throughout the UNBOXED summer, it will stand as a vivid reminder of our shared past – and a symbol of our united journey towards a more sustainable future.

SEE MONSTER is part of UNBOXED:  Creativity in the UK.  See more details here.  A once-in-a-lifetime celebration of creativity, taking place across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and online from March to October 2022.
