Step beneath the hills and into a world shaped over millions of years. The spectacular Wookey Hole Caves feature eight breathtaking chambers, each filled with dramatic rock formations and fascinating history.
Wander through vast caverns, marvel at towering stalagmites and discover the famous Witch’s Kitchen – home to the legendary Witch of Wookey Hole, said to have been turned to stone.
With stories of ancient inhabitants, from prehistoric animals to early humans, these caves are as rich in history as they are in natural beauty.
New Immersive Cave Projections for 2026
From May half term, Wookey Hole Caves created a brand-new immersive experience, combining projection mapping, sound and the caves themselves, which showcases the story of the Witch of Wookey Hole, millions of years of geology and the spirit of exploration beneath the Mendip Hills.
Forming part of the main tour, the experience, as part of a £250,000 investment, introduces a series of huge projections within three cave chambers. But there are no screens involved; the projections have been mapped with precision onto the very surface of the caves.
Cheddar cheese maturing Underground
Deep within the caves, something truly unique is maturing – Wookey Hole’s famous cave-aged cheddar.
Stored 200 feet underground, this award-winning cheese develops a rich, distinctive flavour thanks to the caves’ natural conditions. It’s a true taste of Somerset tradition and a must-try for food lovers.
You can try Wookey Hole cave-aged Cheddar as part of the Wookey Uncovered experience. Aimed at adults, this is a two-hour tour of the caves and the historic paper mill finishing with a cheese and Somerset cider tasting.

Dinosaur Valley
Step into a prehistoric world where animatronic dinosaurs roam among the trees. Come face-to-face with towering creatures and experience the thrill of a land lost in time.
4D cinema
Catch a short film in the 4D cinema, it’s like going on a ride without having to leave your chair. With moving seats, wind and 3D glasses it’s a fun experience for all. Check for age restrictions.
Wookey Hole Circus
One of the highlights of any trip to Wookey Hole is the circus. Yes, they have a 400 seater theatre and circus on site, showing productions from their talented circus school children every weekend and during Somerset school holidays. Wookey Hole is owned by the Cottle family and when Gerry Cottle bought Wookey Hole in 2003 he built a permanent circus school that is the start of the career for some of the best circus performers in the country. With shows changing throughout the year, there’s always something fresh and exciting to see.
Vintage Penny Arcades
Enjoy a nostalgic trip to the Victorian era with classic arcade machines – still playable and just as fun as ever. Slot machines, one-armed bandits and penny pushers can all be played using old one penny coins that you can buy.
The Oldest Mirror Maze in the Country
One of the oldest mirror mazes in the country, this Victorian experience has everyone laughing no matter what the age. Twist, turn and laugh your way through illusions and reflections in these much-loved family favourites.
Try your Hand at Adventure Golf
Also included in your day-ticket is Pirate Adventure Golf. With nine holes across a fun pirate world, this is great fun for the whole family. Alongside the panning for gold experience where every child gets a medal
One of the best soft play areas
Wookey Hole also has one of the best soft play areas in the whole of Somerset. With overhead tubes to crawl through and slides, there’s plenty of space to play, explore and burn off energy whilst mum, dad or grandma relax with a coffee from the Witches Kitchen.

Discover more about Wookey Hole’s fascinating past in its on-site museums. From prehistoric discoveries and cave diving history to its heritage as a paper mill, you can even have a go at making paper from cloth if you visit during weekends and Somerset school holidays.
