Clevedon Pier is a Grade I listed Victorian pier in North Somerset, and widely regarded as the most beautiful pier in England.
It’s also known around the world as a One Direction filming location, after the band chose it for their You & I music video — making it one of the most recognisable UK coastal filming spots for fans visiting the Somerset coast.

A nautical walk back in time
Just a short drive or bus journey from Weston-super-Mare, lies one of the most unforgettable coastal experiences in the South West.
Photographed thousands of times and described by Sir John Betjeman as the most beautiful pier in England, Clevedon Pier is an irresistible walk back in time.
A quarter of a mile of elegant Victorian boardwalk stretches ahead, carrying you over the water itself. On either side — and beneath your feet — are more than 14,000 engraved plaques: names, messages, memories and moments, quietly built into the fabric of the pier.
There are no arcades here. No noise. No distractions.
Just space, sea air, and one of the most atmospheric walks on the coast. It’s a walk that naturally slows you down. Not because you have to. Because you want to.
When a quiet pier became a global moment
For many visitors, Clevedon Pier is instantly recognisable as the setting for One Direction’s You & I music video.
Since then, it has attracted fans looking for the exact You & I video location on Clevedon Pier. Visitors still come to stand where the video was filmed, to recreate moments, and to experience the setting for themselves.
A coffee in a café that feels like the crow’s nest
At the far end of the pier, climb the elegant staircase into the Victorian pagoda café.
Here, the experience pauses. With a hot drink or ice cream in hand, you’re sitting high above the water, looking straight out across the estuary. It’s simple, calm, and quietly unforgettable.
Eat, drink, and see the pier differently
Back towards the shore, the Glass Box Restaurant brings the view inside and fast-forwards to modern day — floor-to-ceiling glass brings the experience right to your table.
At the same time, the Porthole Room reveals a completely different perspective: looking out across the water and down beneath the pier itself, exposing the Victorian engineering that holds it above the tide.
Inside the historic tollhouse, a small discovery centre tells the story of the pier, the town and the wider Severn Estuary in a way that’s accessible and engaging for all ages.
Waverley Fortnight

For a brief period each year, the pier returns to something close to its original purpose.
During Waverley Fortnight, the world’s last seagoing paddle steamer, The Waverley, runs pleasure trips from the pier —bringing a sense of living maritime history back to the structure.
Standing on the boards as it arrives, you can easily imagine what this place once felt like at the height of its Victorian use.

Why it’s worth the trip from Weston
From Weston-super-Mare, Clevedon is just a short journey along the coast — but it feels like stepping into a different pace entirely.
Clevedon Pier isn’t about attractions or entertainment. It’s about atmosphere. Space. Stillness.
And that rare feeling of being somewhere that doesn’t need to try to impress you… because it already does.
