Lympsham Open Gardens

A great way to spend a summer afternoon visiting four of Lympsham's best kept gardens at the Manor, Church Farm (both next to the Church), Somerdown Farm, and Hawthorns in Eastertown. This year, the gardens at Somerdown Farm and Hawthorns are both open for the first time, so there is plenty to enjoy even if you've been before.
For those who don't know the gardens, the Manor is set in 10 acres of formal and semi-formal garden, surrounded by paddocks and farmland. It boasts a carefully preserved, fully working Victorian kitchen garden and greenhouse, an arboretum of trees from all parts of the world, a large stocked fishpond and a beautiful old rose garden.
Its neighbour, Church Farm, has a 3/4 acre informal English country garden surrounding the old farmhouse, a well-stocked herbaceous border, shrub lined paths, raised beds and a small courtyard herb garden.
Hawthorns is a relatively new garden starting almost from scratch a few years ago with a range of colourful herbaceous borders, a stumpery, two ponds and an extensive vegetable garden.
Finally Somerdown Farm is a Gothic Victorian village house. It has a meandering garden encircling the house with a long rockery border, curving herbaceous borders, an interesting variety of shrubs, various gravelled gardens as well as rose arches and very unusual swagged roses along the driveway.
Tea, cakes and a plant stall will be on offer and visitors can top off their afternoon by a visit to the church and a stroll through one of the county's prettiest villages, perhaps taking in a cricket match on the cricket field, next to the school.
The event is principally to raise funds for the National Garden Scheme, a charity which supports causes such as McMillan Cancer UK and other cancer and nursing charities but proceeds from the tea and cake stall and plant stall go to the church in Lympsham.

Road Directions

Turn off the A370 onto Lympsham Road. Church Road is on the left, just beyond the cricket pitch.
