Lympsham Open Gardens

Lympsham Open Gardens combines visits to the gardens of three of the village's most historic homes. The Manor – which was built as Lympsham's rectory 200 years ago - and 17th century Church Farm are both next to the 15th century church of St Christopher's and are connected to each other by a side gate. Worthy House is on Lympsham Road, opposite the village cricket pitch.

The Manor is a 200-year old gothic rectory manor house with 2 octagonal towers, built by the Stephenson family who were rectors in Lympsham for 3 generations, and is set in 10 acres of formal and semi-formal garden, surrounded by paddocks and farmland. It boasts a fully working Victorian kitchen garden and greenhouse, an arboretum of trees from all parts of the world, a large pond and a beautiful old rose garden. Its neighbour, Church Farm, features a ¾ acre informal English country garden surrounding the old farmhouse. It has herbaceous borders, shrub lined paths and raised cut flower beds.

The garden of Worthy House, first time opener this year, consists of well stocked herbaceous borders, shrubs, climbing roses, clematis and hydrangeas. Hanging baskets and pots bursting with colour adorn the two patios next to an octagonal herb garden. Stepping stones lead through a small woodland area to the partly walled kitchen garden which boasts a variety of vegetables,a mature kiwi, potting shed and greenhouse.

Tea, cakes and a plant stall will be on offer and visitors can top off their afternoon by a visit to the church and a stroll through one of the county's prettiest villages, perhaps taking in a cricket match on the cricket field opposite Worthy House
