Spectacular, Pulsating, Exciting, Entertaining, Dramatic, Warrior-like, Action-packed, You'll love it - that's SPEEDWAY!

500cc octane-fuelled single geared motorbikes, without brakes reaching speeds of up to 80mph around our 300 metre shale-covered track, with four riders in a race - two representing the Somerset Rebels and two the opposition. This is intimate motor-racing action at its very best.

Embarking on their 20th season of speedway racing, the club has enjoyed success at all levels of British speedway, most recently winning the SGB Premiership Knockout Cup and reaching the play-offs for the league title last year.

Retaining their Wednesday night race evening the Rebels will in 2019 season compete in the SGB Championship attracting clubs the length and breadth of England and Scotland and have constructed an international side featuring two Australians, an Italian, a German and three Englishmen - including one of Britain's best loved racers, the 2007 British GP Champion Chris 'Bomber' Harris as club captain.

Regarded throughout the sport as one of THE best racing strips in the country, the Highbridge-based Oak Tree Arena is the perfect place to watch thrill-a-minute speedway racing over 15 heats, operating most Wednesday nights between April and October.

With hot food outlets, a clubhouse with licenced bar and a track shop offering a range of speedway merchandise the Oaktree provides an ideal place for the whole family who are looking for a night out with a difference.  Up to 30 minutes prior to racing the riders' pits area are open to the public where fans can see the bikes being 'set-up' for the meeting, speak to the riders and obtain autographs before the 'gladiators' get themselves into the zone for the racing action which starts at 7.30pm.

Throughout the meeting the clubhouse and refreshment kiosks are open and at conclusion of racing there is the opportunity for the members of the public to gather for the post-meeting Press Conference.

Boasting a family-friendly atmosphere speedway fans are always very willing to help any newcomers quickly acclimatise to the easy-to-follow race programme - riders scoring three points for a win, two for second place, one for third and nothing for a last place - so keeping abreast of how the excitement pans out couldn’t be easier.

So, if you are looking for something to do on a Wednesday night,  equip yourself with a pen and head on down to  the Oaktree Arena at Edithmead, Nr Highbridge, Somerset TA9 4HA where a warm welcome awaits all ages for a night of close proximity motor-racing. Gates open at 6pm and action gets underway at 7.30pm.
