Burnham-on-Sea Tourist Information
Explore Burnham-on-Sea and Brean Sands
Burnham-on-Sea is just 15 minutes from Weston-super-Mare to the south, and offers 7 miles of golden sands!
A friendly, compact and flat resort, it is ideal for families, the elderly and disabled visitors and is well worth a visit if you are staying in the area. It was originally situated at the end of the Somerset and Dorset Railway line and recently this has been commemorated with signals and railway buffers on the approach to the town.
It houses a small pier, with the accolade of being the shortest Pier in the UK, with amusement arcade and cafe, art deco cinema that shows both the latest releases and golden oldies, and theatre. The shopping district, within easy reach of the seafront, is home to well known High Street names as well as local independent shops. There are plenty of great places to eat too!
Popular with walkers, the sand stretches from Burnham-on-Sea, north to the holiday villages of Berrow and Brean, across to the National Trust Headland of Brean Down. Golf, fishing and watersports are amongst other activities that the area is known for.
Horse riding is permitted on Berrow Beach all year round, so you are welcome to either take your own horse, or hire one of the beach horses available in the main season. Please note cantering and galloping are not permitted. Dogs are permitted on both Berrow Beach and Brean beach all year round, and on Burnham Beach there are seasonal restrictions so please check at the time of visiting.
Apex Park is an award-winning park with lake, fishing, large play area and an abundance of wildlife an wildfowl.
Locally, the resort is also known for its three iconic lighthouses - the "lighthouse on legs", round tower and pillar lighthouse. You can find out more about them here.
In 2016 Burnham-on-Sea won the award for the "Coach Friendliest Destination in the UK" at the National Coach Tourism Awards, and offers free coach parking, welcomers and discount booklets for coach passengers. The resort achieved CPT Coach Friendly Status in March 2014, one of only 20 places in the UK!
Between Weston and Burnham, you will find the lively resort of Brean Sands, known as the "Golden Mile" and home to a wide variety of holiday camps, holiday parks and entertainment venues. Attracting over 60,000 visitors a week in the peak season, it has been a family favourite for generations, even for families living as close as Bristol, for their summer holiday.
You can find the Tourist Information Centre on the seafront which is open all year, excluding Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
