Inside The Theatre
The Blakehay Theatre is one of Weston-super-Mare’s most distinctive live performance spaces—a beautifully converted Victorian church that now hums with theatre, comedy, music and creative energy right in the heart of the town.
Intimate, welcoming and full of character, it offers a completely different experience to larger venues. Here, you’re never far from the stage, and every show feels personal, atmospheric and alive.
Today, the Blakehay is a thriving hub of entertainment with a packed programme of performances, regular comedy nights, themed events and a growing reputation as one of Weston’s most versatile cultural venues.
Laughing Donkey Comedy Club
The Blakehay is home to its resident comedy night, the Laughing Donkey – a regular fixture bringing stand-up acts, touring comedians and rising talent to Weston audiences.
Expect a lively, no-frills night of proper laughs in an intimate setting where the connection between performer and audience is part of the fun.
More Than a Theatre: A Place to Meet, Eat & Stay Awhile
The Blakehay isn’t just about the show – it’s about the whole experience.
Arrive early and settle into the café-bar, open from two hours before performances, serving food and drinks in a relaxed setting. After the curtain falls, the bar stays open for around 30 minutes, giving you time to unwind, chat and enjoy a nightcap or dessert.
It’s theatre without the rush – an invitation to linger a little longer. Some shows even have accompanying talks before and after.
Signature Events & Experiences
Alongside its theatre programme, the Blakehay hosts a growing calendar of immersive and themed events that transform the venue into something completely unexpected:
Cuban Cocktail Nights
The lights dim, the rum comes out, and the bar transforms into a Havana-inspired hideaway. Expect Cuban cocktail specials, live music, and a warm, tropical atmosphere with a theatrical twist.
Resident Magic Nights
Up-close, intimate magic shows where illusions happen right in front of you. No stage distance, no distractions—just sleight-of-hand, misdirection and pure astonishment.
In-House Jazz Band
The foyer comes alive with live jazz, from smooth soul to vintage swing. Think late-night speakeasy energy and a soundtrack of some of the region’s finest musicians.
Afternoon Tea with Live Music
A traditional afternoon tea elevated with live performance. Fresh sandwiches, cakes and optional fizz, all accompanied by brilliant local musicians.

Why Visit the Blakehay?
Because it’s not just a theatre – it’s a night out that starts early and lingers long after the final curtain.
From comedy and live music to cocktails, jazz and unexpected experiences, the Blakehay blends performance with atmosphere in a way few venues can match. Intimate, creative and always a little bit different, it’s one of Weston’s most characterful places to spend an evening.
