A Café Straight Out of a Storybook

Tucked away on Platform 1, this quaint little café feels like stepping into a model railway scene. Think flower pots, the adventures of The Famous Five and that unmistakable, quintessentially English charm.

It’s the kind of place where time slows down. Start your visit with a proper breakfast or a freshly brewed coffee and maybe grab a sandwich and drink for the saddlebag.

Hire a Bike & Roll Straight into Nature

Once you’re ready, your adventure couldn’t be simpler. Hire a bike right there at the station and within moments you’re gliding onto the Strawberry Line.

You can take your pick of bikes from adult cycles to children’s bikes, from electrics to tandems. They’ve even got a handcycle as well as helmets and children’s trailers.

Discover Somerset at Its Best

The nine-mile route follows the path of a former railway line that once transported strawberries from the Cheddar Valley to markets in London. It leads you through peaceful countryside, with leafy paths, open fields, and plenty of places to pause and take it all in. It’s a gentle, refreshing way to explore – far from busy roads and even further from everyday stress.

Cider orchards, tunnels and an historic station

The trail follows a former railway line, making it beautifully flat and easy to ride -perfect for families, casual cyclists, or anyone who just wants to enjoy the journey without the effort.

You’ll slice through the orchards of the famous Thatchers Cider business, where many riders decide to make a pit stop, then it’s on to the Sandford Station Railway Heritage Centre which offers plenty of interest for railway enthusiasts, historians, families and those who just want to sit quietly for a while. Then comes a highlight for many riders: the dramatic Shute Shelve Tunnel, cutting straight through the hillside and adding a real sense of adventure to the journey.

After your ride, return to that same charming platform café for a slice of homemade cake or another cup of coffee before hopping back on the train to Weston-super-Mare  – relaxed, content, and already thinking about your next visit.
